Assignment #1: Reading Review Blog Post #3:

The information, advice, and articles I found with regard to the usefulness of digital opportunities have been abundant and quite relevant to my topic of interest.

It was evident that all resource found such as tutorial, electronic message, website, promotional videos, and documents are based on an inclusive teaching model which reinforces the fact that adequate and diversified digital resources must be available in all learning environments and therefore, in my school LC.

By browsing through the selected Blog posts and Library ListServ archives, I realized that the subject of ebooks and audiobooks is a “hot” topic and one of concern to many TLs. They understand their benefits, they want them but many still hesitate to take the big step due to financial limitation.

On that note, I would have liked to look for further free of cost possibilities starting with those of our local library, the Vancouver Public Library. As Richardson advises, we have to learn to talk to strangers and learn from them. That said, I plan to do so and find out what opportunities might open up to our students.
When I searched on the Vancouver Public Library website, I saw many Digital options in both French and English.

The selected information also recognizes the idea behind the 21st-century skills and offers products and solutions to better prepare ALL students for the future. It is also clear that using eBooks and audiobooks in all learning environments facilitates the inclusion of all students and provides better learning opportunities for those with reading and writing difficulties. Moreover, these learning tools will also permit more autonomy to many students and empower them to learn successfully. After all, to know HOW to learn is the skill that will lead to success. As Herbert Gerjuoy says: “the illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write. The illiterate will be those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.”

What came to my attention learning about the benefits of having a Digital library is that between the two literary events (Red Cedar and “Livromanie”) that are currently taking place at my school library, none of them contain digital resources. This sad reality is certainly a discouraging factor that prevents many students from participating in these school-wide competitions every year. This is something that needs to be addressed.

What I would like to do next is to further discuss the resources with all my colleagues and together, identify which ones are the best suited to our school community needs. As now, I think Overdrive eBooks might be a good fit for our school community members.

I realize the wide variety of choices that exist, hence the importance of research, information sharing, and discussion with others in order to make the best decision for our school needs.

My research experience on the eBooks and audiobooks convinced me that Digital literacy resources should be part of my library collection.
